Jack and Kate sneak out of CTU to rendezvous with a man who says he has a chip which proves the tape is a fake, Meanwhile, President Palmer refuses to go ahead with his war plans until he hears from Jack.

Jack is further convinced the tape is a fake when his contact is shot during an ambush. While Kim turns herself in to the police, President Palmer deals with growing public unrest caused by the nuclear explosion.
